DOMESTIC PLAYGROUND
"Antes da reabilitação da Casa Delaunay, a mesma apresenta-nos Domestic Playground de Manuel Bompastor, a primeira exposição individual do artista em Vila do Conde. A obra apresentada em Domestic Playground concentra-se sobretudo em pintura, mas o artista faz uso de vários outros sistemas, como cerâmica, costura, colagem e fotografia. De carácter multidisciplinar, e recorrendo ao uso de um vocabulário contemporâneo, com diferentes displays, o artista procura questionar a forma de expor a pintura abstrata de hoje em dia. Domestic Playground é o reflexo do espaço em que o artista vive e surge após o mesmo ser pai e sem estúdio, fazendo com que a linha que separa trabalho e ambiente familiar se tenha tornado ténue. Como tal, as pinturas passaram a deixar de ser expostas numa parede e passam a conviver no chão com brinquedos, fraldas e mobiles. Manuel Bompastor, numa tentativa de eliminar a linha que separa o objecto pictórico do espaço envolvente, modela o último, através do arrastar da forma, cor e matéria para fora do lenço - criando uma nova interpretação do espaço e questionando assim os métodos expositivos tradicionais. Sem ter um conteúdo em concreto, incorporando o manual em vez do mecânico, dando espaço a erro e imprecisão no processo criativo, Manuel Bompastor faz uso de superfícies ambíguas, do espaço expositivo e do corpo humano numa tentativa de obter novas visões sobre aquilo que já nos é conhecido, oferecendo uma percepção sintética dos objectos apresentados. O espaço criado torna-se recreativo numa tentativa de que cada material seja redescoberto, tal como uma criança, pela primeira vez." (texto escrito pelo artista)
Manuel João Martinho Bompastor (1990, Vila do Conde) graduou-se em 2020 em Pintura Figurativa na Barcelona Academy of Art. Actualmente reside em Helsinki (Finlândia), sendo aluno de um programa de graduação (MFA) na University of Fine Arts Helsinki (Uniarts).

"Casa Delaunay presents Domestic Playground, Manuel Bompastor's first solo exhibition in Vila do Conde. Domestic Playground focuses mainly on painting, but the artist makes use of several other systems, such as ceramics, sewing, collage, and photography. With a multidisciplinary nature, and using a contemporary vocabulary with different displays, the artist seeks to question the way how abstract painting is shown today. Domestic Playground is a reflection of the space in which the artist lives after he became a father. Without a studio, the line between work and family environment became blurred. As such, the paintings are no longer displayed on a wall, living now on the floor with toys, diapers and mobiles. In an attempt to eliminate the line that separates the pictorial object from the surrounding space, Manuel Bompastor shapes this one by dragging form, colour and matter out of the canvas - creating a new interpretation of space and thus questioning traditional exhibition methods. Without a specific content, incorporating the manual instead of the mechanical, making room for error and imprecision in the creative process, Manuel Bompastor uses the ambiguous surfaces, the exhibition space and the human body in an attempt to obtain new visions of what is already known to us, offering a synthetic perception of the objects. The space becomes recreational in an attempt to rediscover each material, like a child, for the first time." (Artist statement)
